Tiles have been a popular choice for floors and walls for centuries. They are durable and easy to maintain, among other things. Yet there are situations in which tiles, with their usually cold appearance, are not the most aesthetic choice for an interior. Especially in the living room, where warmth and comfort are central, tiles can sometimes feel cold.
In a rental apartment you do not have a choice about the floor, so we would like to give you some tips on how to make a tiled floor look its best. In our building in Ostend we have created an extremely warm, cozy living room, despite the presence of a tiled floor.
Tip 1 - Color Coordination< br /> Find colors that match your tiled floor. If it is a neutral floor, you can brighten up the space by adding colorful accessories such as cushions, vases, paintings...
Tip 2 – Light sources
Compensate the coolness of a tiled floor with different light sources. Think of mood lighting such as wall lamps, table lamps or floor lamps.
Tip 3 – Carpets
Opt for cozy rugs or rugs in strategic areas to break up the tile floor and add warmth.
Tip 4 – Warm materials
Balance the use of cold materials (such as the tiled floor) by using sufficiently warm materials. Therefore, choose furniture made of wood or rattan.
Tip 5 – Cozy decoration
Avoid an interior that is too tight. Rather, opt for a cozy sofa with cushions, plants and decorations to give the room a homely feel.
